Early Sunday Morning, May 28, 2023, Firefighters battled a massive blaze that engulfed three commercial buildings on West Street in Port Antonio, the capital of Portland. 

Three fire units led the response, but their efforts could not save the Port Antonio market, a nearby supermarket, and a furniture store.

Still, there were no reports of injuries. 

According to reports, the fire started shortly after 8 am on Sunday, May 28, 2023, at the rear of the Musgrave market and quickly spread to Portland Jewellers, a furniture and appliance store.

The fire also spread to the adjoining building, Kamal’s Supermarket & Cambio, destroying various goods, cold storage equipment, cash machines, and an undetermined sum of cash.

Also, the fire destroyed several stalls belonging to craft vendors and caused significant damage to the meat section of the market.

Man survives by playing dead after being shot by gunmen.

A man remains hospitalized after unknown thugs shot him and reportedly set his house ablaze in Goshen, St Elizabeth, on Saturday, May 27, 2023.

According to police sources, the victim pretended he was dead after being attacked and shot by the gunmen traveling in a motorcar.

The police said no clear motive has yet been established for the attack, as the police investigations are at an early stage.

According to media reports, sometime after 12:30 am, May 27, 2023, residents alerted the police and firefighters to the community after seeing fire coming from the man’s one-bedroom house.

Upon their arrival, the police found the wounded man outside the burning structure suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

The police assisted the injured man to the hospital. And the St Elizabeth police launched a search for the criminals involved.

The fire destroyed the one-room structure.

Man shot at Spanish Town bus park; bystanders sent scampering for cover.

On Saturday afternoon, May 27, 2023, a lone thug shot and wounded a man in a brazen attack at a bus park in Spanish Town, St Cathrine, sending bystanders running for cover.

According to reports, at about 5:30 pm, on Saturday, May 27, 2023, the victim was seated in the park among other persons when a man brandishing a handgun approached the victim and opened fire, hitting him multiple times.

The police assisted the man to the Spanish Town General Hospital, where the authorities admitted him for treatment.

The Spanish Town, Criminal Investigation Division, is investigating the case.
