National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang says it’s unfortunate that the diligent work of the security forces doesn’t get the same news coverage as horrifying violent crimes.
Dr. Chang, who spoke Thursday, March 30, 2023, at the handing over ceremony of technological equipment to the Cybercrime Division of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, says this is why the government is working to offer all the necessary support.
The National Security Minister says the police must have the advanced technical equipment to bolster their investigative capacity.
A St Catherine businessman was granted bail following shooting allegations.
St Catherine businessman Mark Chen, who allegedly used his licensed firearm to shoot a man in the face during a rum bar dispute, was granted bail in the sum of $500,000 Friday, March 31, 2023, when he appeared before a Judge in the Gun Court.
According to the police, Chen, a licensed firearm holder, allegedly shot the defendant in the face during a dispute at a rum bar on February 19, 2023.
Patrons assisted the injured man to the hospital, where he was treated.
Chen would later turned himself into the police. The police seized the firearm. And subsequently charged Chen after a question-and-answer session in the presence of his attorney.
The police charged Chen with wounding with intent, breaching the terms and conditions of a firearm authorization, and using a firearm to commit a felony.
Attorney Orville Morgan is representing Chen. Chen will return to court on April 28, 2023.
56-y-o security guard shot dead whilst on duty in St James
St James detectives have launched an investigation into the fatal shooting of a security guard at a wholesale on Thursday, Marcy 30, 2023.
The police identified the deceased as Oneil Williams, age 56.
According to the police, at about 4:20 pm, Wilson was at work at Wagon Wholesale, located along Railway Lane in Montego Bay, when an unknown man armed with a gun entered the premises and opened fire on Wilson. And Wilson fell.
Management summoned the police, and upon their arrival, they found Wilson’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood.
