According to a gleaner story on Sunday, March 19, 2023, investigators in the Jamaica Constabulary Force has launched a probe into allegations that a habitual fraudster got signed out of his cell at a police lock in Kingston and went on an unsupervised spree that lasted several hours.

The Gleaner said law enforcement sources confirmed the incident and said the detainee was handed over to law enforcement officers from an unnamed police station when they came to pick up the detainee at the Kingston Central Police lock-ups between late December 2022 and early January 2023.
During his unauthorized spree, the detainee, Garth Savoury, was reportedly seen at various places, including his home and a restaurant. Savoury unauthorized spree was uncovered by the court when he did not show up for court, and nobody could account for him.
On Thursday, March 17, 2023, DCP in charge of crime Fitz Bailey told The Gleaner that there was an incident that was the subject of an active high-level investigation by the JCF Professional Standard Unit
“I know that there are some irregularities surrounding someone in custody, but I don’t know the details, and I don’t know the prisoner’s name,” Bailey said.
“I am aware of an investigation into what I call a mysterious situation in which one person who should have been in custody was not there,” he said before insisting that he would make no more comments on an active probe.

Nevertheless, Despite DCP Bailey’s lack of transparency, an investigator close to the case told the Gleaner that a policeman who allegedly negotiated a $50,000 payment for Savoury unauthorized spree had been suspended.
According to the Court Administration Division, Savoury, is a former employee of the Jamaica Football Federation, where he worked as a marketing manager. He and his co-accused Ramone Gordon are facing forgery and uttering forged documents charges.
