PNP renewed call for transparency in SSL probe and seeks clarity on FBI involvement

On Sunday, KINGSTON, Jamaica — The People’s National Party (PNP), through its spokesperson on Finance, had called on Jamaica’s Minister of Finance Nigel Clarke to verify whether he was truthful when he told the nation that the FBI was to assist with an investigation at SSL.

The Opposition’s call came against the backdrop of a statement issued by the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Division’s SSP Anthony McLaughlin. On Friday, February 17, the CTOC boss revealed that local law enforcement was conducting the SSL investigation and did not need the assistance of the FBI at this juncture.

The revelation starkly contrasts a prior public statement by Clarke suggesting that the FBI would be collaborating with the JCF in the investigation of the SSL debacle.

“The head of CTOC has directly contradicted what the minister of Finance said about the FBI involvement in the investigation. The country needs to know the true position,” Opposition Spokesman on Finance Julian Robinson said.
