Dancehall Promoter Isaiah Laing praises the government for its move to acquire the 70-acre JamWorld entertainment complex in Portmore, St Cathrine.

JamWorld is considered by many as the spiritual home of Sting. But the facility slid into disrepair after Sting took a 7-year hiatus.

On November 8, 2022, Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange, Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment, and Sports, announced the acquisition at Sting’s media launch at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston.

Laing said JamWorld was home to Sting from 1993-2015. Speaking about JamWorld, Laing said the facility needs to be upgraded to a high-tech venue with a museum that could become a tourist attraction. 

The former member of the JCF said plans are on schedule for this year’s Sting on Boxing Day, which will be held at Grizzly Plantain Cove in Priory, St Ann.

“We’ll be ramping up promotions in the next few days,” said Laing. “This will be one of the best shows ever. We have a mix of fast-rising acts and seasoned veterans. The young artists have the current hit songs that the young people want to hear and see perform these songs. I’m encouraging everyone to come out and enjoy a great show,” he continued.

According to Laing, this year’s lineup will include Christopher Martin, Etana, Jesse Royal, Silk Boss, and Kraft.

The first staging of Sting was in 1984. at Cinema 2 drive-in theatre in New Kingston. Over the years, many Hip-Hop heavyweights have performed at Sting. People like Biggie Smalls, DMX Kris Kross, and Busta Rymes.

Among famous Sting clashes are (the 1990 Super Cat vs. Ninja Man), (the 2000, Merciless vs. Ninja Man, and Bounty Killa vs. Beenie Man). And (2003 Vybz Kartel vs Ninja Man).
