Detectives in Portland arrested and charged a 12-year-old boy from Hope Bay, Portland, after he attacked a 13-year-old girl with a machete, then stabbed her with a knife.

The police charged the boy on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, with wounding with intent.
According to the Hope Bay police, at about 11 am, on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, the boy attacked the girl with a machete. And an adult reportedly intervened and disarmed the child.
The police said the boy left the scene and reportedly returned with a knife, which he allegedly used to stab the girl in her back.
Concerned residents alerted the police. The police transported the victim to the hospital.
The police subsequently arrested and charged the juvenile.
His court date is pending.

According to reporting, the boy was among 18 people the police scooped up in a dragnet during a ten-hour operation on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, in the Portmore and Gregory Park communities.
The boy gave his address as Watson Grove, Portmore, St Catherine. The police held him in Clarke’s Lane with a .38 revolver and one 9mm cartridge.
The police charged him with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorized possession of ammunition.
In addition, law enforcement officers arrested Triston Morgan, age 32, of Walker Avenue, Portmore, St Catherine, after they removed one browning 9mm pistol with one magazine containing six 9-millimeter cartridges from his person. The police subsequently charged him with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorized possession of ammunition.
The suspects’ court appearance dates are pending.
