The police reported that they had indicted a Portmore, St Catherine Roman Catholic Priest with sexual abuse of a 12-year-old child. 

On Monday, July 10, 2023, the police charged Kenyan national Lawrence Muvengi, age 39, with having sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 16, sexual touching, grievous sexual assault, and abduction of a child under 16 years.

According to the police, the clergyman allegedly sexually assaulted the complainant at the premises of the Church compound.

The matter was reported to the police, and detectives launched an investigation.

On Monday, July 10, 2023, the police indicted Muvengi after the child positively identified him and a question and answer session in the presence of his attorney.

The police have not decided on a court appearance date for the accused.

Police recaptured an Ocho Rios escapee in St Catherine.

The police have recaptured a fugitive man who had escaped from the Ocho Rios lockup in St Ann in August 2022.

The police identified the man as Jermaine Rodgers, age 33, of Mile End, Ocho Rios, St Ann.

On Tuesday, July 11, 2023, the police recaptured Rodgers in a dragnet in Christian Gardens, Gregory Park, St Catherine.

He is 33-year-old Jermaine Rodgers of Mile End, Ocho Rios.

The police previously charged Rodgers with illegal possession of a firearm. He was among four men who escaped custody in Ocho Rios on August 5, 2022.
