CLARENDON, Jamaica – The Clarendon police are looking for a woman who is supposedly the ex-girlfriend of a man whom she allegedly stabbed multiple times on Saturday afternoon, July 1, 2023, in Goshen District, Mocho, Clarendon.

According to reports, the incident occurred moments after the couple had sex at the woman’s abode. The police confirmed the stabbing and said the injured man has since had one operation after being admitted to hospital in serious condition.

Unconfirmed reports stated that on Saturday, July 1, at about 12: noon, the man visited his ex-girlfriend, had sex with her, and fell asleep. 

According to the police, a sharp pain in the complainant’s back woke him from slumber. Opening his eyes, he saw his ex-flame standing over him with a knife. Then, she stabbed him in the abdomen again.

Somehow he managed to escape, and a good samaritan took him to the hospital. Hospital authorities summoned the police, and the police briefly talked with the injured man in the hospital.

The police said efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend the ex-girlfriend.

JTA President says teacher shortage threatens Minister’s class size goal.

The Jamaica Teachers Association fears that the aim of the Ministry of Education to establish a ratio of one teacher to 25 students per class is under threat as public schools struggle with a staff shortage.

JTA President La Sonya Harrison has noted that many schools, especially those in rural communities, struggle to fill vacancies created for various reasons, including resignations, vacation leave, and retirement.

She noted earlier this week that, for this 2022/2023 academic year, schools could not offer some subjects, while teachers had to deliver lessons outside of their subject areas.

Mrs. Harrison said it remains to be seen whether the Minister’s goal of reducing class sizes will be achieved.
