Despite the Public State of Emergency and beefed-up police presence, in Hanover, unknown thugs gunned down another man in the parish.

Gumshoes in the parish of Hanover are currently probing the shooting death of a man in Hog Bush District in Lucea, Hanover, Thursday night, May 18, 2023.
The police identified the deceased as Rushane Rhooms, o/c ‘Boy Boy,’ formerly of Hog Bush in Haughton Court, Lucea, Hanover.
According to the police, at about 11:45 pm, on Thursday, May 18, 2023, ‘Boy Boy’ was in his district when unknown assailants approached him and opened fire, hitting him multiple times.
The police rushed ‘Boy Boy’ to the Noel Holmes Hospital in Lucea, where he was pronounced dead.
Fear Gripping Jones Avenue Residents Amid Uptick in Violence
According to news reports, residents of Jones Avenue in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, said they are living in fear amid the latest escalation of gang violence in the community.
Last Thursday’s (May 11, 2023) murder of two men in a brazen daylight attack, plus the firebombing of a motorcar by gang-banging thugs, heightened fear in the community.
Residents said the two deceased were law-abiding citizens.
According to Nation Wide News, Jones Avenue looked like the proverbial ghost town even in the daytime.
“We noted several abandoned houses, stripped of fixtures and with bullet-riddled walls.
Evidence of the vice-like grip that crime has on the community situated just meters away from the Spanish Town Police station.Our news team was greeted by cautious residents who generated nervous energy as we sought to interact.
Their reluctance seems justified.In a space where several previous murders have been classified as reprisal killings, many fear the cycle will continue following last Tuesday’s attack, which left two men dead in the community.
We spoke to one resident who operates a small shop on Jones Avenue.
The businesswoman, who wished not to be named, says fear has caused her to close her small business before dusk approaches.Another resident said fear sucked the joy out of the community.”
