In his most recent contribution to the Sectoral Debate in Parliament, Labour & Social Security Minister Karl Samuda has confirmed his imminent departure from the Cabinet.
Mr. Samuda, in an interview with Radio Jamaica News Saturday morning, May 13, 2023, said that his exit, which will be soon, should not come as a surprise as he had indicated that he would step down from his ministerial role at the midterm.
He said the departure process started on Friday when he met Permanent Secretary Colette Roberts Risden and other executive team members.
He’s now anticipating the official announcement by Prime Minister Andrew Holness.
Mr. Samuda, who is 81, confirmed that his age led to him alerting the Prime Minister regarding his impending departure from ministerial duties.
He has been at that ministry for almost three years.
The bodies of a man and a woman were found in a house with gunshot wounds.

The St Ann police are investigating the suspected murder of a couple, whose bodies the police found at a house in St Ann’s Bay, St Ann, on Friday, May 12, 2023.
The police identified the deceased as Kamarah Walker-Wollaston and her spouse, Daney Wollaston, a businessman from Gully Road in St Ann’s Bay, St Ann.
According to investigators, at about 4:00 pm on Friday, May 12, 2023, the couple’s daughter returned home to the gruesome scene of the lifeless bodies of her parents. She raised the alarm and summoned the police to the location.
Upon arrival, law enforcement officers found Daney Wollaston’s lifeless body lying on its back in a pool of blood with what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds to his torso, while his wife was lying on the floor in a pool of blood with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.
The police processed the scene and removed the bodies to the morgue.
The police are yet to establish a motive for the double murder.
