United States Immigration seized the mobile phone of Guyana’s Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Home Affairs, Mae Toussaint Jr-Thomas.

But Immigration officials are tight lip about why they seized the Permanent Secretary as she traveled via the US en route to China.

Following the embarrassing incident, Guyana’s Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Elizabeth Harper requested an explanation, but US Immigration authorities pushed back, saying nothing could be provided.

According to reports, the US Embassy in Guyana has informed the Guyanese government that US Customs and Border Protection agents may request detailed information about the purpose for visiting the US, their travel history, and their luggage could be subject to a thorough search.

Still, a senior official in the Guyana government told Demerara Waves Online News that the United States is not obligated to give a reason for seizing the Permanent Secretary’s phone.

However, the official stressed that the US did not formally notify the Guyana government about the incident. Therefore, the government waits until the Permanent Secretary returns to determine what action it should take.

According to Demerara Waves, the Permanent Secretary’s mobile phone could contain sensitive national security information and communication with top government and ruling People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPPC) officials.

During the annual four-day music festival, the Jamaican artist shared the stage with Burna Boy, Calvin Harris, Labrinth, The Kid Laroi, and Rae Sremmurd.

Shenseea captivated the audience with hit after hit as they sang along in California on Saturday, April 22, 2023, the festival’s penultimate day.

In a post on her Instagram account Sunday, April 23, 2023, the artist reflected on her career over the past year and a half. She took shots at some of her detractors and naysayers, “They said I wouldn’t get bigger…I just did Coachell”.

Coachella is an annual two-consecutive weekend music and arts festival held at the Empire Polo Club in California’s Coachella Valley in the Colorado Desert. This year’s event was on April 14-16 & 21-23.
The music festival attracts about 250,000 patrons each year.
