Since Lady Saw retired from the dancehall space, Jamaican Dancehall fans crowned Grace Hamilton, o/c ‘Spice,’ as the new Dancehall Queen. But recently, veteran Dancehall artist Macka Dimond declared herself the Queen of Dancehall, at least in Costa Rica.
Fresh from another top-shelf performance in Costa Rica, Macka told The Weekend Star that she is the Queen of Dancehall in Costa Rica.

“… If not to my fellow Jamaicans, or the dancehall community in Jamaica, I’m the dancehall queen in Costa Rica. After my recent performance there, the feedback I received reinforced that I should wear my crown proudly. What’s amazing is that the supporters are primarily the young people, so I know I’m reaching the youth,” Macka Diamond continued.

The artiste recently performed at a sold-out event in Santa Teresa, about eight hours away from the country’s capital San Jose. It was her fourth time performing for the people of Costa Rica, and she was always amazed by the audience’s response to the lyrics of her songs.
“Me a really fi dem dancehall queen, man, because dem know the language and lyrics so well. Once I bring a new song, dem run wid it. Last time. it was Wuk Off, and this time I performed the new single Blap. They really embraced me; it was just a lot of love. It gets bigger and better each time I visit.”

“People have been motivating me to keep on going, ‘don’t stop Macka’ is all I have been hearing, and I promise not to. There is a lot ‘my diamonds’ can look out for as the year continues. I’m still working on putting out a new album,” Macka Diamond said.

She admits that she is long overdue for a complete and comprehensive project.
