Police arrested five at a checkpoint following the seizure of guns and ammunition

Police from the St Andrew Central police seized three firearms and multiple rounds of ammunition during a vehicle search at a checkpoint on Dunrobin Avenue on Thursday, February 23, 2023

The police subsequently arrested five persons who were traveling in the vehicle.

The police report at about 8:15 pm, a team of law enforcement officers were on an operation in the Dunrobin area when they stopped a motor car for breaches of the Road Traffic Act.

They conducted a vehicle search, and a .357 Magnum containing six .38 cartridges, a 9mm Beretta pistol with eight 9mm cartridges, and a Glock 17 pistol with ten 9mm cartridges were found in the vehicle. As a result, the police took the vehicle’s five occupants into custody pending further investigations.

She appeared in the Home Circuit Court on Friday morning, February 24, 2023, for a bail application. But, despite her attorney’s best efforts, the presiding judge denied bail. Instead, the judge scheduled another bail application hearing for April 19, 2023. And requested the accused bring a medical report to verify her ailments.

 The Court also schedule a plea and case management hearing for June 15, 2023.

Panton, who has diabetes, and other ailments that need close motoring, applied for bail on medical grounds.
