MANCHESTER, Jamaica: The two-vehicle collision occurred near Mandeville along the Winston Jones Highway on Tuesday night, February 21, 2023, left two people dead and twelve others hospitalized, one in critical condition from injuries they sustained in the accident.

According to early reports, the collision occurred at about 9:00 pm and involved two taxis.

Police and firefighters were early to the scene. And the police had to cordon off a section of the Highway near a mud lake following the collision.

Unknown assailants killed two men in St James.

ST JAMES, Jamaica –Tuesday afternoon, February 21, 2023, two men were shot dead in the district of Gut Bottom, Granville, St James. In addition, an off-duty policeman narrowly escaped with his life during an attack by gunmen. 

The deceased are Rexford Jarrett, 24, and 29-year-old Orane Reid, o/c “Hagga.” Both men are said to be residents of Tucker, St James.

According to reports, at about 2:30 pm Tuesday afternoon, Reid entered a silver Toyota Axio motor car from the driver’s side, and Jarrett sat in the front seat. Minutes later, a white Toyota Voxy pulled up and blocked the Axio. Suddenly two men alighted from the Voxy and opened fire at Reid and Jarret. During the shooting, Jarrett ran from the Voxy.

An off-duty constable challenges the gunmen, and they open fire on him. He returned the fire, and the men escaped in the Voxy.

Minutes after the shooting, Reid was slumped on the passenger side of the Axio with gunshot wounds to his upper body. And Jarrett was found in a yard lying face down about 300 meters away with gunshot wounds to his back.

Both men were pronounced dead at the Cornwall Reginal Hospital. The police found twenty 9mm spent shells at the scene.
