Police seized guns and ammo in West Kingston Sunday amid an uptick in violence.

On Sunday, January 29, 2023, during heightened operations, West Kingston cops seized two firearms in separate incidents amid an uptick in gang violence.

A woman is in custody following the seizure of a Stoeger Cougar pistol along with 41 .40 rounds of ammunition.

According to the police, the recovery was made in the vicinity of Dee Cee Avenue and Chang Avenue in Tivoli Gardens.

The police report stated that at about 5:15 p.m., a joint police/military team was on patrol where a funeral was being held.

According to the police, a woman was spotted walking along the roadways with a bag around her neck.

She was accosted and searched, and the firearm and ammunition were found inside the bag.

She was later arrested and charged.

The second seizure occurred between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., during a snap raid carried out by members of the Kingston West and St Catherine North police along Lincoln Crescent in Kingston.

The police said a Taurus pistol along with five 9mm cartridges was found in a flower pot near the targeted premises.

No arrest resulted.

The police team was summoned to the area following a shooting in which one man was killed and another injured.

The fatal shooting occurred at about 2:30 p.m., the deceased, 19-year-old laborer Shaheem Williams, o/c ‘Shiaz,’ was among a group of men sitting inside a yard, drinking. When they were reportedly pounced upon by armed men. Who opened gunfire on the group hitting Williams and another man.

The injured men were taken to the hospital. Williams was pronounced dead, and the other man was admitted in serious condition.
