
Kingston Central/West Kingston: 10 people got shot, 4 fatally.
Violence surged in the Kingston Central and Kingston West Police divisions over the weekend. And according to Commanding Officer for the Area 4 Police, Assistant Commissioner Donovan Graham, 10 people got shot, four fatally.
ACP Graham spoke during a Sunday, January 29, 2023, tour of the affected areas with the Commissioner of Police, Major General Antony Anderson.
He said the residents who have been experiencing relative calm are now concerned.
The Area 4 Commander said murders were down 21 percent and shootings 23 percent across his division last year.
He said the Police would intensify their operational activities to restore and maintain calm in the affected communities.
Gang conflict is reportedly the leading cause of the latest flare-up.
Montego Bay, St James: Police seized cocaine at Sangster airport-Employee arrested
The police reported that they had seized a quantity of cocaine at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James. And arrested and charged an employee for cocaine possession and attempting to distribute cocaine.
Reports are that on Sunday, January 29, 2023, at about 11:50 a.m., a joint team of members of the Narcotics Division and the Customs Contraband Enforcement Team (CET) conducted an operation at the airport.
According to the police, the employee was spotted acting suspiciously. He was subsequently accosted and searched. And four parcels containing cocaine, weighing 2.5 kilograms, were in his possession.
The man was arrested.
A 13-year-old girl fatally stabbed her 19-year-old brother.
St James police are investigating the fatal stabbing of 19-year-old Noel Demetrius. It’s alleged that his 13-year-old sister stabbed him during a family dispute at their home in Irwin, St James, this morning, January 30, 2023.
The unfortunate incident occurred sometime after 9:00 am. The siblings who were at home with other family members started to argue. Demetrius reportedly started to beat his younger sister, who grabbed a knife and allegedly inflicted a wound in the region of his chest.
Demetrius was rushed to the Cornwall Regional Hospital, where he died.
