Strangely, Jamaica’s Finance Minister (the next sacrificial lamb) announced yesterday, January 23, 2023, that the Government called the FBI last week to help in the SSL investigations. Still, neither he nor the PM mentioned the FBI in their Thurs and Fri speeches. Furthermore, it wouldn’t work like that. Their first step would be the American Embassy, then the State Department.
So, even when the truth stares them in the face, they turn around and lie to the Jamaican people. Which is why the Jamaican people cannot trust their Government.
No wonder Mr. Ronald Thwaites said Jamaica is a low-trust society. In his Oped on October 24, 2022, issue of the Gleaner to honor Grace Kennedy for one hundred years of service to the Jamaican people, titled, “Can Good Come From This Nazareth.” He writes the following.
A single theme coursing through the narrative of Grace Kennedy’s centenary lecture, recounting their 100 -year history, was that of trust. It is the scarcest but most necessary of personal and civic virtues, the building block of all social relations. GK’s motto is, ‘We care.’ Trust, the foundation of caring, is the assurance that any relationship is based on truth and principle rather than opportunism and self-interest.

Trust is the spiritual nourishment that strengthens all commercial, political, familial, and personal relationships. Unfortunately, Jamaica is a low-trust society. Mistrust invades the bedroom and the boardroom alike. The presumption of untrustworthiness becomes a self-fulfilling prediction. We create stifling layers of psychological and bureaucratic defense. Try starting a business or joining a political movement. Some of us even practice mistrust in the name of Jesus!
